Denis Florence
McCarthy
Born in Dublin, 1817. One of the brilliant band who
have left
us the deathless poetry of the Nation "Bless
the dear old
verdant land," "Come, Liberty Come,"
etc. His
beautiful " Waiting for the May," has been
compared to
Keats, marked as all his poems are by
beauty of
imagery and silvery rhythm. He died in
"Poet's Corner,"
Sydney Avenue, Blackrock. "Going
to Greet the
May," in the Great Beyond, April 7, 1882.
"Man is ever weary, weary
Waiting for the
May."
