“They Died by Pearse’s Side” by Ray Bateson.

Over sixty known Volunteers were killed in action during Easter Week. A number of others who were killed have not been identified. Others died from the effects of wounds received during the battle or from the conditions of imprisonment after the surrender. The names of these Volunteers are now largely forgotten and their graves known to only a few.

They Died by Pearse’s Side is the first book to bring together the stories of these Volunteers. It presents an overview of each major battle and an overall timeline and location for these Volunteers deaths. It tells the story of how each of them died and provides a photograph and the location of each grave.
