On Sunday 28th June 2009 the National Graves Association unveiled a new memorial to Seán Russell and the men of the 1930’s and 40’s in Fairview Park, Dublin. Since that date the monument has been vandalised on a couple of occasions by mindless juveniles. The graffiti painted monument has attracted much coverage in the media and has been used by some anti-Republican journalists to sympathise with the criminals responsible for the graffiti. We understand that this has angered many individuals and groups prompting some people from outside of our association to clean the monument and others to donate money towards the cleaning. The NGA commission only professional monumental works to clean monuments in our care and the cleaning of the Fairview Park memorial will be completed soon. |
